Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a treatment offered that helps arrest or slow the progression of dental cavities. This allows us to treat dental decay in younger or special needs children that may have a difficult time sitting long enough to complete “traditional” treatment until a more definitive treatment can be completed. Not all cavities can be treated with SDF, and Dr. Ryan will determine if your child is a good candidate for SDF treatment. The side effect of this material is that it does cause black discoloration in the decayed portion of the tooth.
